2013 NEW CTE TEACHER CONFERENCE

The Texas Education Agency sponsors the statewide professional development conference for first and second year career and technical education (CTE) teachers. This year’s conference will be held September 30 – October 2, 2013 in Austin, Texas.

Attendees will learn proven strategies for CTE, meet Texas Education Agency CTE staff, ask questions, and share ideas with other CTE educators from across the state. Conference sessions will include 16 Career Clusters breakouts, CTE TEKS, lesson planning, serving special populations, strategies for teaching today’s students…and more! New CTE teachers will also gain valuable resources and connections by networking with representatives from Texas CTE professional associations and career and technical student organizations (CTSOs).

$75 registration fee includes:

• Conference admission for two days
• All conference materials
• Working lunch on Tuesday, October 1
• Opportunity to earn up to 14 CPEs

2013-2014 CTE LEADERSHIP ACADEMY

The Texas Education Agency sponsors the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Leadership Academy for those whose responsibilities include the implementation and oversight of career and technical education programs at the campus and/or district level:

CTE directors
CTE coordinators
• Principals and assistant principals
• Superintendents and assistant superintendents
• Other school administrators

This nine-month professional development program begins with a two-day symposium in Austin, October 2 – 4, 2013. It will provide participants with a strong foundation for understanding and implementing CTE administrative policies and procedures.

During the school year, mentors will guide the participants through action-learning projects and help them apply what they are learning to their current responsibilities. The CTE Leadership Academy will conclude in June 2014 with a summer symposium in Austin where participants will be able to share promising practices and lessons learned, as well as gain additional information on effective CTE leadership.

$250 tuition and fees include:

• All instructional programming and materials
• Lodging for two nights at Fall 2013 CTE Leadership Symposium hotel
• Lodging for one night at Summer 2014 CTE Leadership Symposium hotel
• Lunches during CTE Fall 2013 and Summer 2014 Leadership Symposiums

2013-2014 PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELOR ACADEMY

The Texas Education Agency sponsors the Professional School Counselor Academy for those whose responsibilities include the implementation or oversight of college and career readiness at the campus and/or district level:

• College and career readiness coordinators
• School counselors
• Counselor educators
• Special education/special populations counselors
